En France, sur une vingtaine d’espèces sont recensées, seules 4 espèces de blattes sont considérées comme domestiques, résidant ou trouvant refuge dans les constructions. Il s’agit de la blatte américaine, la blatte orientale, la blatte des meubles et la blatte germanique.

Les principales causes d’une infestation de blattes sont les ordures et l’insalubrité des habitations. Elles sont omnivores et donc se nourrissent de tout ! Comme par exemple de matières premières, de cartons, de papiers et de déchets.

La blatte germanique est à l’origine de 90% des infestations en France.

Ces insectes ont le corps aplati, leur coloration varie du jaune au noir en passant par le brun. Leurs antennes sont très longues, sont filiformes et ont beaucoup de pics au niveau de leurs pattes. Elles peuvent mesurer de 10 à 40 mm selon l’espèce. Le mode de reproduction d’une blatte se fait par oothèque (coque produite lors de la ponte contenant des œufs). Les femelles peuvent pondre 7 à 40 oothèques dans leur vie selon les espèces allant de 16 à 45 œufs par oothèque.

Ce nuisible se déplace tout le temps en groupe à cause des odeurs qu’il produit et qui attirent ses congénères les uns les autres.

Souvent à l’extérieur, elle demeure peu fréquente. Cette espèce dégage une forte odeur désagréable qui est génératrice d’intoxication alimentaire.

La blatte des meubles

Souvent à l’origine de dégâts matériels, elle est aussi porteuse de bactéries qui peuvent contaminer les denrées alimentaires. Cette espèce de blatte reste toutefois assez rare.

Les blattes sont attirées par les lieux humides et obscurs contenant des résidus de nourriture : dans les cuisines (derrière les meubles et gros appareils électroménagers), les gaines d’aération et d’isolation, les fentes des murs, les vide-ordures et les buanderies.

Fréquentes dans habitats vétustes, elles peuvent cependant coloniser très rapidement les immeubles neufs par l’intermédiaire des gaines d’aération ou par introduction d’un élément provenant d’un immeuble infesté (meuble, matelas…)
